Maintenance Operative - based in Rugby, Warwickshire

The Maintenance Operative is responsible for ensuring that the school premises and grounds are maintained, repaired and developed to a high standard and creating a safe environment and to contribute to the ethos of the school by developing and maintaining positive relationships with staff, pupils and visitors.

General Duties

  • Undertake internal and external general repairs
  • Identify potential maintenance needs and reporting to the site supervisor for consideration
  • To support with the maintenance and develop school grounds and gardens
  • To support the routine safety checks and maintenance of school vehicles, highlighting any issues to site supervisor.
  • Be aware of the Health and Safety implications of the role performed and adhere to any requirements of the Group / School Health & Safety Policy
  • Building effective relationships with colleagues at the school, pupils and visitor.
  • To be able to accurately record completed work
  • To ensure the safe use of equipment and that it is fully maintained and fit for purpose
  • Being aware of cost implications and ensuring the most effective and efficient fix
  • Take part in and /or provide relevant training
  • Follow all company policy and procedures

Person Specification

  • Working in a practical role (eg, painter decorator, with vehicles maintenance or building trade)
  • Functional English and Maths qualification or equivalent (or above)
  • Working knowledge of health and safety processes, regulations and responsibilities in maintenance areas
  • Proactively identify maintenance needs before they become a risk
  • Contribute fully to team working
  • Act respectfully and professionally
  • Dependability and good organisational skills
  • Ability to supervise third party contractors when onsite (example plumbers)
  • To be prepared to react to urgent tasks at short notice in support of the school.
  • Held Full UK Driving Licence for a minimum 12 months
